Twinkle, twinkle, little star

Twinkle, twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are!
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.

When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,
Twiknkle, twinkle,all the night.

Then the traveller in the dark,
Thanks you for your spark,
He could not twinkle so.

　日本語でも歌われているので、メロディーも有名な歌ですが、これはもともとアメリカの女流詩人ジェーン・テイラー(Jane Taylor 1783-1824）の作で、姉のアン(Ann）との合作Rhyms for the Nursery(1806)にThe Starという題名で発表されています。
　しかし、いつのまにか作者不詳ということにしてマザーグース入りをしました。


　『不思議の国のアリス』 では、帽子屋が女王の前でこの歌を替え歌にして歌っています。
